Job Description and Duties

The Sierra Nevada Conservancy (SNC or Department) is seeking a highly motivated individual who has strong communication skills and experience with state and federal policy development to join the Department’s Policy & Outreach Division. Under direction of the Policy & Outreach Division Chief, the Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA) serves as a Policy Analyst to the Department, performing the more responsible and complex assignments such as legislative analysis, policy and program evaluation, event coordination, and communications and outreach support related to the Sierra Nevada-Cascade Region and its natural resources.

The position requires approximately 20% travel throughout the Sierra-Nevada Cascade Region.

Working Conditions

The duties of this position are primarily performed indoors in a modern office environment. The incumbent’s workstation is equipped with standard or ergonomic office equipment, as appropriate. Prolonged sitting, use of telephone, personal computer, and copier are required. Travel will be required (including driving or riding in a vehicle) and will require incumbent to be outdoors, occasionally walking on uneven terrain. Incumbent must work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines. Occasional lifting, carrying, and/or moving up to 25 pounds may be required.

Telework Opportunity :

Hybrid Work is supported. Remote work is allowed up to 3 days per week. Per GC 14200, State of California telework eligibility requires California residency and cannot be used to live or relocate out of state.

  • Basic understanding of the state and/or federal legislative process
  • Experience with virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom, Webex, or Microsoft Teams
  • Practiced in analyzing data to identify trends, make projections, and draw conclusions
  • Ability to plan, organize, communicate, and adapt to changing assignments and priorities, and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with individuals or entities contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of audiences, including policymakers, community-based organizations and other stakeholders
  • Ability to deal with multiple tasks with changing priorities and provide outstanding customer service
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Familiarity with how state and federal policies and programs affect rural economies and natural resource management
