Job Description

Social Media Coordinator 

Location: Remote, Maryland 

Time: Part-Time, 20 hours per week

Role Overview:
Under the supervision of the Communications Director, the Social Media Coordinator will focus on managing and enhancing Progressive Maryland’s social media presence. This role emphasizes graphic design, content posting, leading the social media team, and executing social media strategies to amplify our mission and campaigns.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Progressive Maryland’s social media calendar and all social media pages.
  • Collaborate with organizers to create and design digital content, including graphics, captions, hashtags, and toolkits for campaigns.
  • Schedule and post content regularly on all social media platforms, ensuring active and engaging pages.
  • Share and repost relevant content from organizational allies and endorsed candidates.
  • Promote Progressive Maryland events and online actions via social media.
  • Lead social media attention around legislative priorities and endorsed candidates during key sessions and events.
  • Lead the Progressive Maryland Social Media Team by recruiting volunteers and organizing regular meetings with team members.
  • Train social media volunteers to manage Progressive Maryland’s associated chapter and task force social media pages.
  • Create an annual Social Media Report to track growth and analytics with the help of the Communications Director.
  • Develop and implement effective social media strategies tailored to our campaigns and organizational goals.
  • Engage in direct voter contact at events as needed, particularly during election years.
 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in creating graphics and text for social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.
  • Strong skills in graphic design using tools like Canva.
  • Basic computer literacy with a willingness to quickly learn new digital platforms.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure while managing multiple projects.
  • Capacity to work independently, as a team member, and as a team leader.
  • A deep understanding of community challenges and a strong interest in driving change.

Pluses (but not required):

  • Experience in running digital advertisements.
  • Familiarity with Maryland’s political landscape.
  • Interest in electoral campaign work and digital community organizing.
  • Experience in non-profit communications or development.

Travel and Position Details:
Reliable access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license, laptop, phone, and willingness to travel throughout Maryland as needed are required. The Social Media Coordinator should be able to access Progressive Maryland’s social media profiles on the go for live-posting during events.

Compensation:
Compensation for this part-time role is within the range of $25,500-32,500 as based on experience.
